Rapidobject
The online service is the business.
Rapidobject sells industrial 3D printing online: upload a file, get a price, order the part. That core business ran on a shop system more than ten years old. We rebuilt the storefront — extensible, operable, with AI in the engineering process.
Core
Price on upload
Check geometry, choose a process, see the price — in the shop, not in a quotation process.
Application views are adaptations in the Lipsia design system · prices and parts illustrative
01About the project
Ten years of shop system is a mortgage.
The existing shop had grown for more than ten years. It worked — but every extension cost more than it returned, and range, processes and speed to market hung on its limits. For a company whose core business is the online service, that was the decisive construction site.
We rebuilt the storefront: upload and part check, process and material choice, instant price, ordering and order tracking. In the process we used AI-based development — where it creates speed, not as an end in itself.
02The task
Migration during live selling.
The shop could not stand still, and the window before launch was limited. At the same time the new storefront should not be the old one in a new colour, but extensible for services that do not exist yet.
- Replace the legacy shop without stopping sales
- Keep upload, check and instant price in one flow
- Represent processes and materials extensibly
- Make order status visible to customers
- Use AI in engineering in a way that holds up
03Instant price
The price appears on upload.
Anyone who wants a part printed has a file and a question: what does it cost, and when will it arrive? The storefront answers in the same step — it checks the geometry, suggests a process and calculates the tiers instead of promising a quotation.
Check
Before the order
Wall thickness, build volume and closed geometry are checked on upload — not in production.
Price tiers instead of a quote email
Quantity, unit price, total and lead time sit side by side. Customers can move the quantity and see the effect immediately — the pricing logic lives in the product, not in an inbox.
Illustrative tiers — the pricing logic sits in the storefront, not in a quotation email.
Decision
Do the maths
Change the quantity, see the price: no return channel needed.
Processes and materials extensible
MJF, SLS, SLA, FDM and further processes with their materials and lead times are configuration. Adding a new process is maintenance, not a project.
An illustrative selection in the storefront pattern — not a catalogue extract.
Range
Maintenance, not a release
New processes and materials arrive without a code change.
04Order
Production starts after the order.
A part passes checking, printing, finishing and shipping. For customers that is no longer a black box: the order shows where every part stands — and the documents sit where the order sits.
Order
Per part
Status per part, not per order — partial deliveries are the normal case.
Documents
4
Quote, confirmation, check report and delivery note on the order.
Status without a phone call
Every status change reaches the customer — checked, printing, finishing, shipped. That frees the sales desk from questions nobody should have to ask.
Notification
On status change
The order reports itself instead of waiting for a request.
Documents on the case
Quote, order confirmation, check report and delivery note hang on the order, not in an email thread. Anyone placing a repeat order finds the basis for it in the same place.

Repeat
Order again
Earlier orders are the template for the next one.
05Approach
AI in the process, not in the brochure.
We used AI-based development in the engineering process for this storefront: in migration steps, test coverage and recurring code work.
Stance
Measure first
What creates speed stays. What only looks like progress goes.
